The ambitions of Basque Francis Layin becoming a distinguished scholarand doctor of philosophy. But under the spell of St. Ignatius Loyola atthe famed university of Paris, he was struck by the basic question whatdoes it profit a man to gain the whole world, if he suffers the loss ofhis own soul. Francis Xavier was ordinated at 31, among the sevenorginal jesuits. When King John of Portugal wanted to send the jesuitmissionaries to the East India, Francis and his followers reached Goa in1542. Francis went south to the Fishery Coast and bought thousands tothe Fishery Coast and brought thousands to the faith.St. Francis succumbed to fever on December 2, 1552 at the age of 46.His body was returned t Goa in 1553 and has remained incorrupt to thepresent day. Pope Gregory XV canonized him in 1622.Million might be easily converted if there were more preachers whowould sincerely mind the interests of Jesus Christ and not their own.
