Augustine was the eldest son of Patricius a pagan officer and Minica aChristian.During his studies at Carthage he has become ensnared by theManichaean heresy. But as a result of his mother’s tears St. Ambrose’seloquence and sanctity helped Augustine to come into the Church atEaster of the year 387 at the age 33, Having Gained his peace of mindand soul, thereafter he lived the life of a saint. After three years he wasordained to the priesthood and at the age 42 he was made Bishop ofHippo.St. Augustine was one of the world’s greatest thinkers. As a theologianand philosopher he is outstanding among the Church Fathers. His‘Confessions’ the world’s most noted autobiography is a memorial ofthe deep repentance.St. Augustine died of a fever on 28th August 430
